AUTHORITIES destroyed P11-billion worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu seized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Infanta, Quezon on March 15.

The Integrated Waste Management Inc. in Trece Martirez, Cavite destroyed the drugs as ordered by the Trece Martirez Regional Trial Court on June 2. Six NBI-Forensic Chemistry personnel attended and witnessed the destruction of seized illegal drugs on Wednesday.

NBI Director Eric B. Distor reported that a total of 80 sealed black boxes containing the drugs were turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). He said NBI chemists participated in placing the illegal drugs inside the pyrolysis machine while other NBI personnel were allowed to take photos and oversee the destruction.

The NBI, in coordination with the Philippine National Police in Infanta, Quezon and PDEA Lucena, seized the P11-billion worth of shabu in a dawn operation in Barangay Comon last March 15. The operation, likewise, resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals while in the act of transporting the illegal drugs on board three commuter vans.

The NBI said the seizure is "unprecedented and historic". Considering the volume and amount, this is considered the biggest drug haul in Philippine history, the bureau added.
