Authorities have destroyed some P11 billion worth of illegal drugs that were seized in Infanta, Quezon last March 15, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said Wednesday.

In a statement, NBI Director Eric Distor said the destruction of the illegal drugs was done on June 2 by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) through an order issued by the regional trial court.

Distor noted that six NBI-Forensic Chemistry personnel attended and witnessed the destruction of the illegal drugs at the Integrated Waste Management Inc. (IWMI) in Trece Martires, Cavite.

“NBI Chemists participated in placing the dangerous drugs inside the pyrolysis machine while other NBI-FCD personnel were allowed to take photos and oversee the destruction” process, he said.

“The NBI Chemist-in-charge conducted the inventory and accounted for 80 sealed black mega boxes which were equated counts of evidence that were turned over to PDEA,” he added.

To recall, the interdiction operation of the joint operatives of the NBI and the Task Force Against Illegal Drugs (NBI-TFAID) and the Philippine National Police in Barangay Comon, Infanta Quezon had yielded P11 billion worth of suspected shabu.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals, who were caught in the act of transporting the illegal drugs on three commuter vans.

According to the NBI,  the anti-illegal drug operation yield is considered the biggest drug haul so far in the country’s history. —LBG, GMA News
